Hi there. Wow! I cannot believe that I am still the 5kg Intermediate shot-put record holder. I did notice, however, that the year should be 1986 not 1988 (I had left Worksop by then and was working in Hamburg 1987-1988).

Nice to see the info is “alive”.

    Cheers,

Jon (jishmerlarda@googlemail.com if anyone wants to stay in touch)

Good to see the Javelin record still stands. Wow, is that really 21 years ago?! Good job Simon. Thanks for keeping the records alive.

Jimmy R Goodman. (Steve Backley / Jan Zelezny wannabe at the time).

Well done, Simon, some names to conjure with there, and don’t forget the work of the various caches over the years!

When I was chasing that 110m hurdles record in 1974/5, I never dreamt it would still be standing today – 57 years makes you wonder if there was something unique about the conditions, track, equipment or person. But it sort of makes me feel good because at the time I remember wondering how the hell he did it so quick!!!

Brunyee was a bit special. He won the England Schools under 17 110y hurdles in 1955 and in the same year won the Northern junior hurdles (3 years young!) in 15.4. He then won the senior Schools title in 14.9 a year later (and ran 14.8 at the Notts Champs albeit with a following wind), but left Worksop after the end of the Lower VI. He then ran 14.6 the year after (still a junior) and in 1958 hurdled at the Cardiff Empire Games.

We had a 15.1 hurdler (Tubby) in the early 1960s and then yourself and Martyn Hay in the 70s – sadly hurdles is rarely contested nowadays. Worksop has had some great hurdlers over the years – but none quite as good as Brunyee – will his record ever be broken?!
